Nevada Sales Tax on Gold and Silver
CHECKED 2026-10-28. NOT TAX ADVICE.
Nevada charges sales tax on gold and silver bullion bought as an investment.
The Department of Taxation says retail bullion sales are taxable unless the bullion is bought to be used as a medium of exchange, and it says physical bullion generally does not meet that test. Under NAC 372.170, coins sold for more than 50 percent above face value are taxed as collectibles; coins sold at or under that are treated as money and not taxed. The seller has the burden to prove a sale is exempt. A 2025 bill (AB 359) to exempt coins and bullion made no progress.
General state sales tax rate: 6.85%. NAC 372.170 (coins and bullion). State rate from Tax Foundation 2026 table (taxfoundation.org/data/all/state/2026-sales-tax-rates/).

Under IRS Form 1099-B instructions, a sale of precious metals in a form and quantity that matches a CFTC-approved futures contract (for example, at least 25 gold coins of a covered type) can require the broker or dealer to report it; a single coin sale does not, and sales to the same customer within 24 hours are added together. irs.gov
