The Roosevelt Dime, in brief
The Roosevelt dime was issued in January 1946, the year after President Franklin D. Roosevelt died, and was struck in 90% silver through 1964. John R. Sinnock designed both sides: a portrait of Roosevelt and a torch between branches of olive and oak. San Francisco struck dimes from 1946 to 1955 only. Lustre covers the silver years, 1946 to 1964, only; dimes from 1965 are clad and contain no silver.
Roosevelt dimes before 1965 are worth their silver in nearly every grade. Each contains about 0.072 troy ounces of silver. Premiums are small and come mostly from Mint State coins with a Full Torch strike, and from the lower-mintage dates such as the 1949-S and the 1955 issues.
