Questions

Quick answers

What is the silver price per ounce today?

The live silver spot price is at the top of this page, in US dollars per troy ounce. It is read from a market data feed every 15 minutes and the server puts the current number in the page before it is sent.

What is the silver price per gram?

Divide the price per troy ounce by 31.1035. The page shows the live price per gram for fine silver and for sterling (.925), coin silver (.900) and 800 silver.

Why do dealers charge more than the silver spot price?

Spot is the wholesale price of the metal. Coins and bars cost money to make, ship and stock, so retail prices are above spot. The extra is the premium. See the premium over spot calculator and the compare prices pages.

What is silver worth per ounce when I sell it?

Less than spot. Dealers typically pay about 70% to 90% of melt for scrap silver and sterling, and more for common bullion and 90% silver coins.

How much silver is in a silver coin?

It depends on the coin. A pre-1965 US dime holds 0.0723 troy ounces of silver; a Morgan dollar holds 0.7734. Use the junk silver calculator or the melt calculator.

Spot prices come from a market data feed (gold-api.com) and are read every 15 minutes. They are for information, not a quote, and not what a dealer will pay or charge. Lustre stores its own readings for the chart and the 24 hour change. Method.
