1932-D Washington Quarter

DENVER (D) · 90% SILVER, 10% COPPER · 436,800 STRUCK

The answer

Worth about $70–$260 circulated and $4,500–$6,500 in MS-65.

The 1932-D Washington Quarter is a key date from the Denver Mint, with 436,800 pieces struck. In circulated grades (G-4 to EF-40) our estimate is $70–$260, and a well-preserved MS-65 example is estimated at $4,500–$6,500. Because this is a key date, condition and authenticity matter far more than metal content: have any high-value coin graded by a recognised service.

A key date: only 436,800 were struck. Most were circulated, and Mint State examples are expensive.

Altered mint mark fakes

Fakes are made by adding a D to a 1932 Philadelphia coin. A genuine 1932-D shows a crisp, original mint mark under the wreath.

Check the silver

A quarter dated 1964 or earlier is 90% silver and shows a solid silver edge. From 1965 the coin is clad and the edge shows a copper stripe.

Mint mark position

D and S sit on the reverse below the wreath. A 1932-D or 1932-S without a clean, original mint mark may be altered, so have any valuable-looking 1932 coin authenticated.
